We’re looking for a committed and creative Children’s and Families Ministry Leader to help lead this important ministry, equipping our volunteer team and creating environments where all kids are loved, known, and engaged in God’s story.

 

About the Role

The Children’s and Families Ministry Leader will play a vital role in supporting our children’s ministry by preparing weekly resources, coordinating volunteers, and ensuring Sunday programs run smoothly.

You’ll be supported by a pastoral staff team, a dedicated volunteer team, and a broader church community who all share a commitment to intergenerational ministry, where children are seen not as a separate group, but as full participants in the life of the church. At Como Baptist, we believe discipleship happens best in community, and we care deeply about facilitating opportunities where young people can grow in faith, experience belonging, and be inspired to follow Jesus.

 

Key Responsibilities

Weekly Tasks (5 hours/week – flexible hours)

• Curriculum Preparation & Resourcing (3 hrs/week):
  Adapt and prepare engaging, gospel-centred curriculum for our context, and organise supporting materials.
• Curriculum Printing & Filing:
  Prepare and file weekly lesson materials for Sunday use.
• Children’s Ministry Roster:
  Prepare and update the volunteer roster.
• Volunteer Development:
  Equip, support, and encourage volunteers through training and regular communication.
• Attend Staff Meetings & Oversight:
  Attend fortnightly staff and pastoral oversight meetings.

Sunday Morning Responsibilities (3 hours/week)

• Team Support & Leadership:
  Oversee and support volunteers, gather the team prior to the service for briefing and prayer, troubleshoot as needed, and ensure kids feel safe and welcome.
• Serving on the Roster:
  Be available to step into a program role as needed when volunteer gaps arise, modelling leadership and flexibility.
• Set-Up, Sign-In & Lock-Up:
  Ensure areas are unlocked and accessible prior to the program, sign-in desk has been set-up, and ensure a thorough lock-up and pack-down afterward.
